Education

"Man's mind, once stretched by a new experience, never regains its original dimensions."...Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Nature, history and outstanding programs and equipment combine to form an ideal learning environment here. Pocosin forests, broad bays, estuaries, creeks, wetlands and sandy shores make it convenient to observe nature.  And there's so much nature to observe with a diverse wildlife population—both on land and in water—and a variety of native trees, shrubs and smaller plants. The well-equipped CP&L Wet Lab is icing on the cake, providing an ideal place to take a closer look at those samples of plants and creatures.

Nearly 500 years of history come alive in nearby villages—from the first English settlement in Manteo to colonial history in Edenton and plantation history at Pettigrew. Walk through these sites and bring history to life for any age group.

Explorers at the Center learn to find their way with a compass, string a bow, or use ropes to climb and maneuver high in the tree tops. Our Marine Sciences and Sailing Camp or our Leaders in Training/Counselors in Training Camp create ideal environments for intense learning that feels more like fun. Our well-trained staff is always on hand to help with specialized equipment. Whether it's in the CP&L Wet Lab or high in the trees, the Eastern 4-H Center gives you wings to expand your horizons in a safe, no-pressure learning environment.
